Draining

For draining excess moisture do you leave the drain open at all times or open it only when excess moisture is found? Do you find that anything needs to be done to prevent the drain from being clogged with bedding, etc?

I leave the drain open at all times. Some people will use a drain type filter to keep material from escaping, but in my experience, this has never been necessary. The drain has never clogged with my material mix, and as long as you don't egregiously overwater, or over tilt the bin, I have only ever had small amounts of material end up in the catch bucket. These just get recycled back in when I dump it back into the bin.
